Valentine Parent Idea
Truth be told there is an element of blogging that personally violates me. Its the part of personal blogs that has me asking the question why do I read about someone who simply writes a ton about themselves assuming anyone cares. Somewhat like people facebook or the fascination with tweets. I guess you could say…I am simply someone who just doesn’t care. But hey that’s my issue and I am going to write a short blog now violating my own principles because it will be personal in order to inspire YOU (the reader)…a parent (hopefully).
Each Monday my family is addicted to our dinner at Smashburger. Not because it is incredible by any stretch, but because kids eat free. We often have a buy one get one free and we buy a $25 gift card for $20 at Sams (great Valentines gift for me…just saying). So if you are following that…our family of four eats for under $10. But THAT is not my purpose for writing…really it is not. I am not writing a Dave Ramsey blog…but come to think of it — a night at Smashburger for under $10 — PRICELESS!
What I want to inspire is — last night for Valentines Week my wife took our 6th grade son out to Foxfire (Monday $5 Burgers…still a deal) while I took my ten year old daughter…to Smashburger
So sure…we ditched the concept of “family” but we leaned into the special time between father & daughter and mother & son! And the evenings were extremely rich. Both kids individually shared how special it was to have a night where their parent loved on them individually. You could see it in their eyes and body language and each also verbally testified how great it was and we should do it MORE.
This idea is not ROCKET SCIENCE! It is not HARD! And yet it is not done OFTEN ENOUGH. I am simply going to end by sharing–Take you son or daughter out for a DATE just the two of you this week. Or at least before the month is out.
If you want to grab low bearing fruit as a Father with a seventh or eighth grader…join us this Sunday for WhirlyBall from 4-6.
